IT was always going to be tough to turn in a worse performance than last week. Thank god I didn’t have another double digit loss weekend, but by no means was I ‘lights out’. With NFL back on the menu, I’m focusing on the two preseason games and a few headline baseball games.

San Fransisco Giants @ Washington Nationals
SUNDAY’S first game sees the second place Washington and second last place San Fransisco do battle. That tells you most of what you need to know about the upcoming match with 23 wins separating the two sides.
Verdict: Nationals W

Cleveland Indians @ Tampa Bay Rays
OFFENSE has been hard to come by for the Rays in the last week. With just eight runs in eight games, there’s no doubt that Tampa Bay will hope they can tick the scoreboard over and avoid a series sweep. The only issue is they are facing Corey Kluber (10-3, 2.65 ERA) who has had double digit K’s in 11 of his last 13 games. You get the picture.
Verdict: Indians W

Houston Astros @ Texas Rangers
YOU may wonder why an Astros game against the Rangers warrants being selected as a ‘headliner’ MLB game. Well, Houstons starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel (9-2, 2.87 ERA) is why. After a neck injury derailed his start to the season, he has struggled to recapture his form that saw him post a 9-0/1.67 ERA. A Texas team who has scored the 7th most runs in the MLB will be a good test for the Astros ace as he tries to help them avoid a season worst sixth straight loss.
Verdict: Rangers W

San Fransisco Giants @ Washington Nationals 2
WE have already established that the Nationals are the better team here, and we know that Max Scherzer is really good at pitching. With more strikeouts than anyone not named Chris Sale, The Giants will have their work cut out for themselves….again.
Verdict: Nationals W

Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees
TWO famous rivals, the race to best each other atop the American League, the series on the line and baseballs best arm in action. What’s not to love about the final game on Sunday? Sale (14-4, 2.57 ERA) has been handed a defeat in his first two games against the Yankees in a Boston uniform, but I’m backing him and the Red Sox to get the W on the road.
Verdict: Red Sox W

Detroit Lions @ Indianapolis Colts
THE joyous return of football sees the Lions and Colts take to the field for the first time in 2017. It’s extremely tough to predict how results will fall as most teams won’t use their first team players for lengthy times, especially in week one. I have a hunch the better team will still get the job done and that better team is the Lions.
Verdict: Lions W

Seattle Seahawks @ Los Angeles Chargers
AS both Seattle and LA conclude the first game of week one once again it’s tough to gauge who deserves the title of favourites in this match. The Chargers will be excited to get a W on the board in the new home early on in their campaign and that coupled with the lack of star power and relevant players on the field they should do just that.
Verdict: Chargers W
