Teams Considering Trading First-Round Picks in the 2018 NFL Draft

THOSE of you who listen to my Sunday Sitdown podcast you’ll know that I don’t plan on projecting trades in my final NFL Mock Draft. I’ll post it Thursday morning before the Draft gets underway, but still, I have a few teams in mind that might make a move. It wouldn’t surprise me if the following squads swapped first-round spots with someone on Draft night.

2018 NFL Mock Draft 1.0
2018 NFL Mock Draft 2.0
2018 NFL Mock Draft 3.0
2018 NFL Mock Draft 4.0

Moving Up

New England Patriots
Current Picks: 23, 31, 43, 63, 95, 150, 193
NEW England has been associated with moving up and finding Tom Brady’s replacement for a little while now. With three picks inside the top-45, a move up to snag a sliding QB (here’s looking at you Josh Rosen) could be on the cards. It’s unlikely they can tempt the Browns at No. 4, but they could tempt San Fran (No. 9) or even Buffalo (No. 12) with both of their first rounders.

Carolina Panthers
Current Picks: 24, 55, 85, 88, 152, 183, 208, 216
IT might not be as silly as it sounds. Investing in a move up is a good move for both their immediate success and the future and they could target a handful of different guys. It’s unlikely they will be able to move up and take Bradley Chubb, but they might be able to call Seattle and tempt them. Chances are they could then snag Marcus Davenport or another edge rusher.

Buffalo Bills
Current Picks: 12, 22, 53, 56, 65, 96, 117, 157, 173
SORRY Bills fans, A.J. McCarron isn’t going to be your saviour under center. Therefore, sacrificing the No. 12 & 22 picks to break into the top-10 might be a good idea, allowing them to be in the range for anyone who falls. Both New York and Denver might be willing to listen.

Green Bay Packers
Current Picks: 14, 45, 76, 97, 129, 172, 206, 213
STRANGELY enough, the Packers are being mentioned as risers in a handful of mock drafts. Adding another star cornerback or a star wide receiver for Rodgers in the absence of Jordy Nelson, then a Super Bowl is well within reach.

Moving Down

New York Giants
Current Picks: 2, 34, 66, 69, 104, 130
WHILE it’s unlikely that New York moves down from the No. 2 spot, there is still a ton of buzz surrounding them. With Eli Manning not getting any older a young prodigy would be nice, but they could auction the pick off and still get plenty in return. See the aforementioned Bills and Patriots.

Denver Broncos
Current Picks: 5, 40, 71, 102, 105, 133, 151, 154, 168
DENVER was rumoured to be taking a quarterback after some roster moves unfolded. However, with Case Keenum coming to town and some ‘faith’ in Paxton Lynch the Broncos might be keen on moving down. Anyone who was keen on an overlooked Saquon Barkley or Bradley Chubb would no doubt be intrigued in moving up.

Cleveland Browns
Current Picks: 1, 4, 33, 35, 64, 110, 141, 161, 191
FOR the first portion of the draft the Cleveland Browns will dictate how things pan out. If they decide to keep the pick and go QB and Barkley, or Chubb and QB or any other formula then the rest can unfold closer to how we expected. If they trade No. 4 to someone though then things change dramatically.

Peace ✌
