I’M hype to be entering 2018 with a healthy boost to my winning totals. However, with a new year comes a new challenge. As the NFL fixtures dry up and eventually take a back seat until the new season resumes, I’ll be focusing some attention on generation next in the college basketball world. It could be a great chance to boost my winning percentage. Or not.

Utah Jazz (16-23) at Miami Heat (21-17)
REASONS to watch this game.
1. Rudy Gobert vs. Hassan Whiteside, 2. Dion Waiters vs. Donovan Mitchell, 3. You’re really bored.
Verdict: Heat W
New York Knicks (18-21) at Dallas Mavericks (13-27)
IF you haven’t watched a lot of Mavericks basketball lately you could be forgiven. However, they are winners in four of their last six and nearly completed an insane rally against the Bulls where both teams combined for 35 points in the final 68 seconds! A tired Porzingis isn’t slowing them down.
Verdict: Mavericks W
Oklahoma City Thunder (22-17) at Phoenix Suns (15-26)
DEVIN Booker has been pouring in 27 points a game since returning from injury, giving you a reason to think Phoenix can steal one here. OKC is starting to click, sending a warning to other teams in the West during the process.
Verdict: Thunder W

San Antonio Spurs (27-13) at Portland Trailblazers (20-18)
KAWHI Leonard, Tony Parker and probably Danny Green are all sitting this one out. Former Blazer LaMarcus Aldridge was a late scratch in the Suns last game and should return to action making this somewhat interesting. The Spurs won the Dec 20th matchup in the same building against the Blazers and I think the home team will get their revenge tonight.
Verdict: Trailblazers W
Atlanta Hawks (10-28) at Los Angeles Lakers (11-27)
THE cellar dwellers in the East and West square off trying to return to the winner’s collum. Even though LA is favoured I can’t see them turning their fortunes around with nine straight L’s becoming 10.
Verdict: Hawks W
#6 Buffalo Bills (9-7) at #3 Jacksonville Jaguars (10-6)
SEEING the Bills make the postseason was worth it just to see all the reaction videos circling the worldwide web. While man their stay in the playoffs is expected to be brief this entire matchup hinges on the status of LeSean McCoy who is going to try and play on a bum ankle. If he can charge their offense then anything is possible. It’s gonna be ugly, it’s gonna be low scoring, but it’s gonna be a Jags win.
Verdict: Jaguars W
#5 Carolina Panthers (11-5) at #4 New Orleans Saints (11-5)
I really, really, really want to make a compelling case that my Panthers can win this one, but frankly, I just can’t. Super Cam heroics are the only way that they can advance against a Saints team that has beaten them twice already this year. That being said if the defense can stuff the run and Drew Brees has an off day…OK forget it.
Verdict: Saints W
#1 Michigan State Spartans (15-1) at Ohio State Buckeyes (12-4)
INTERSTINGLY the Buckeyes are 8-11 all-time against No. 1 teams and Chris Holtmann could steer his squad to a massive surprise win. The Spartans are just too good and too deep for me to read into the upset potential though.
Verdict: Spartans W
South Florida Bulls (7-9) at #9 Wichita State Shockers (12-2)
ACCORDING to ESPN’S BPI, USF has a 0.9% chance of winning this game. Oh and the spread in 29 points. Wow.
Verdict: Shockers W

#24 Florida State Seminoles (12-2) at #14 Miami Hurricanes (12-2)
I watched Florida State in the win over North Carolina and they were lucky to hang on. With Miami returning to the Watsco Center after a month on the road I’m backing the home crowd to help fuel them to a much-needed win.
Verdict: Hurricanes W
SMU Mustangs (12-4) at #19 Cincinnati Bearcats (13-2)
THIS is a danger game for Cincinnati. They managed to barely escape Temple with a win at the buzzer and if they are complacent SMU can win. In one of the most hostile college basketball environments though I don’t think this one will be close.
Verdict: Bearcats W
#4 Arizona State Sun Devils (12-2) at Utah Utes (10-4)
GONE are the days of being media darlings for the Sun Devils. After flying to 12-0 they have been brought back to Earth with back to back losses at the hands of Arizona and Colorado in OT. After tearing through the non-conference play teams are starting to figure out Arizona State and after playing the Wildcats tough in their last game I’m tipping Utah to pull off the big win at home.
Verdict: Utes W
