Can someone please tell Rafa and Roger that its 2017? Honestly, both studs are playing like they are a decade younger, squaring off in finals and constantly hoisting trophies. Back in 2007 Federer and Nadal finished one and two for ATP titles won and a decade later they are looking to continue the trend. After Nadal’s triumph in the Monte Carlo Masters yesterday the golden guys continue to turn the tennis world on it’s head.

IT seems inevitable that both players will falter at one point or another. So far though both players look virtually invincible. Heading into the Australian Open in January Federer, who was returning from a six month layoff after a knee injury, was seeded 17th and Nadal was 9th. However, both guys made it to the final with Federer prevailing in a epic match. Previously Nadal had beaten Fed everytime they met in a Grand Slam dating back to 2007.

THAT epic final alone was enough for tennis fans who got their nostalgia fix seeing the two greats go at it, but they were far from done. Two more meet ups in the Indian Wells round of 16 and the Miami Open finale were on the schedule, with Federer again claiming both meetings. While Nadal still leads the head to head 14 year rivalry 23-14, Federer has definitely swung the ledger in his favor by claiming the last four wins. The infamous pair have now spent over 89 hours together against each other, which is close to four full days. As both reach the twighlight years of their careers, everyone questions how long much gas they have left in the tank.

COMBING for 43 wins and six losses so far in the calendar year, Nadal and Federer could very well make the rest of 2017 their own. Djokovic and Murray don’t look like the world beaters that they have been in the past and no one from generation next has made the leap to super stardom just yet. Federer  has improved his ranking from 17th to 4th through the first four months of the year and is the leader in prize money and ranking points earned for 2017. Nadal leads the way for most finals made so far with four and got his 1st title of the season under his belt with a win at Monte Carlo in straight sets. As both men gear up for the French Open in a month’s time, tennis fans from around the globe are praying that we can continue to see both players execute at a such a high level. They both don’t have too many years left on tour, but as long as no one reminds them it’s not 2007 we can safely enjoy the year of the throwback.
