FANTASY Friday provides you with the latest fantasy news for your league from the past seven days. Check back weekly to make sure you get a leg up over your peers with my guide to fantasy glory. All stats and opinions are based on ESPN fantasy league formats.
– RUSSELL Westbrook and James Harden continue to defy logic with their fantasy numbers and anyone who is a owner of either of the pair would be flying high right now. Denver continues to be a revolving door of inconsistent scorers with the exception of Wilson Chandler. If for some reason Chandler is still available in your league claim him NOW! Don’t be fooled into investing in Tyson Chandler though as with the exception of rebounds, he contributes very little to your fantasy team. Sean Kilpatrick and Andrew Harrison are two of the most added players from the past week and if your backcourt is suffering from an injury to Mike Conley or D’Angelo Russell they could be a handy replacement. Personally I believe Harrison is a safe choice as he will be guaranteed minutes with Conley out and Kilpatrick’s form will continue to yo-yo.
– SPEAKING of the injured star Grizzlies point guard, there are a few options that you have to cover the potential All-Star’s absence. If you have IR spots in your league I advise stashing him there. If not then you need to break down your place in your leagues standings. If you are tracking well so far this year and won’t slide to much from missing Conley then hold onto him. However if you haven’t got off to a great start and are in a deep league, it may be best to look to the waiver wire for immediate help to help you trend upwards in the standings. Everyone’s position on dropping/holding Conley is going to be different, but if you can get away with it hold onto him as he is a potential top 10 stud at his position when he returns to health.
– AS Week 13 rolls around it seems as though there are still questions that we need answered about the capability of some players. One player we can rely on is Colin Kaepernick, who, despite the 49ers woeful season has hit his stride averaging 23.7 fantasy points in the past month. One such player that you cannot count on though is Christine Michael…….yet. If anything were to happen to James Starks he would be next man up for the Packers and Michael has shown what he is capable of in Seattle so monitor that situation carefully.
GRONK’S back injury puts plenty of fantasy owners (including me) in a pretty crap position. While he may make a return sometime during the playoffs his fantasy season is over and at this time of the year a replacement isn’t so easy to find. I advise opting for someone like Vernon Davis from the Washington Redskins (41.7% ownership) or Cameron Brate (49.3%) from Tampa Bay if possible. If there are slim pickings then Hunter Henry (31.1%) from San Diego is a serviceable choice and desperate times call for Jermaine Gresham from the Falcons (10.3%).
